CLASSES

Puppy & Junior Class - Learning Great Skills

Classes are every Wednesday in New Malden from 7.30pm & on Sundays from 10am in West Molesey; each lesson continues for between 45 mins & 1 hour.  You are able to begin any week and although you will get more benefit from continual attendance the flexibility provided mean that you can miss a week or two and join back in when life's other commitments allow you to. You need only pay for six weeks at a time (£50). With prior notification you may also swap between the Wednesday evening and Sunday morning classes.

Good Manners & Focus Class

Do you want your dog to have the skills to live a great life with you?  Does your dog seem to ignore you or get easily distracted? Or perhaps your dog doesn't have all the skills of good canine communication? I will teach you how to teach your dog those behaviours that will ensure that you can both enjoy that special relationship that only you have.

The Good Manners and Focus Class teaches dogs how to focus and have good manners around distractions including other dogs, and how to teach both owners and dogs how to relax and work together in the face of life's challenges.  The class activities incorporate sits, downs, stays, recall and more in the midst of activity to encourage your dog to obey whilst surrounded by distractions.  At Paws we use positive reinforcement techniques in training when helping change behaviour, so your dog will want to continue trying new things.

The lesson basis works on the teaching the following but sometimes we do add some other items if time allows or needs require it:

Focus training
Relaxation training
Greeting other dogs
Learning with Games
Human greetings
Ignoring the public
Ignore/Leave it
Distraction Training
Politeness

We run the Good Manners and Focus Class on Wednedsay evenings from 8.30pm over 6 weeks, and runs for approximately 45 mins to 1 hour.  Across 6 weeks you will build up your confidence and increase the difficulty of training for your dog, and learn how important it is to constantly challenge your dog.  There is no age limit and we welcome all breeds and all behaviours. Cost is £50 for the 6 week course (if you need to miss a week you may join in the next course for the weeks that you missed).

Real World Class

Getting those learned behaviours in the real world is often a lot different to training in a secure, distraction free or controlled environment. In this class you and your dog will learn how to get those great behaviours happening out in the real world while going for a walk.

Attendance in one course of either the Puppy & Junior Class or the Good Manners & Focus Class is a pre-requisite as we use some of the foundation of what you have learned in these classes.

The Real World Class continues to cover aspects started in puppy and the adult class but also works on the following exercises with all the distractions:

Great Recalls (getting your dog to come to you reliably)
Learning to Relax
Pushing the Basic Training to new levels
How to have fun
Meeting and greeting people
Meeting and greeting other dogs
Picnickers, Joggers and Cyclists
Cafe politeness

How to deal with unfortunate incidents your dog may be involved in

A 4 week course for the whole family, usually run on Sunday late mornings (or can be during the weekday by prior arrangement). It is held in a local park but can be subject to change to ensure all facets of real world training are incorporated. Numbers are limited. Cost is £40 for the 4 week course (if you need to miss a week you may join in the next course for the weeks that you missed).

TIPS for all CLASSES

You will need to bring something that motivates your dog, usually treats of some kind works wonders and even if your dog is not really food motivated - it's amazing what a bit of competition can do!  However if your dog doesn't seem very motivated we will help you find what helps. We generally use something like luncheon or frankfurter as they can be cut up really small and are moist enough for the dog to digest easily.  If your dog has a favourite toy bring that along too.

Please turn up on time or let me know (via text on 0784 222 4513) if you are not going to make class or are running late.

All dogs need to be fully vaccinated (apart from the First Weeks class).
